What Can Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Evaluate?
Ultrasound can be useful for examining many structures located close to the surface of the body, including muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and fluid-filled areas.
It may be used to evaluate tendon injuries, muscle injuries, ligament problems, inflammation, bursitis, joint swelling, and other musculoskeletal conditions affecting areas such as the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle.


Ultrasound-Guided Injections
In addition to diagnostic imaging, ultrasound can be used to guide certain orthopedic injections. Real-time visualization allows the physician to see the needle as it approaches the targeted structure and helps accurately place the treatment in the intended area.
Ultrasound guidance may be incorporated into certain therapeutic injections, including PRP therapy and other injection-based treatments when appropriate.
Musculoskeletal ultrasound does not use radiation and can typically be performed comfortably during an office visit. A small amount of gel is applied to the skin, and a handheld ultrasound probe is moved over the area being examined.
Dr. Haber can evaluate the structures on the ultrasound screen in real time and may ask you to move the affected joint or extremity to better understand how the tissues are functioning.

The examination itself is generally painless, although applying pressure over an already injured or sensitive area may cause temporary discomfort.
